Description
Since 2016, the Merefa city territorial community of the Kharkiv region has been a signatory to the pan-European Covenant of Mayors initiative. On July 09, 2018, the XXIII session of the Merefa City Council of the VIII convocation approved the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan of the Merefiansk community, with specific goals to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 30% in certain sectors by 2030 and increase the share of renewable energy sources.
Every year, the Merefa City Council initiates Sustainable Energy Days, involving young people, civil society institutions, student government, community organizations, and business representatives. This year was no exception.
One of the planned events, given the key theme of the Sustainable Energy Week 2024: "Green Transformation, Decarbonized and Competitive Communities", is an interactive eco-educational quest at the Motion Space Youth Center at the Merefiansk City Central Library dedicated to decarbonization and the development of alternative energy sources.
The target audience is the members of the Merefa Community Youth Council and active youth from the community's settlements. During the interactive eco-educational quest, the community youth will study climate change, the need to develop alternative energy sources, develop measures to reduce CO2 emissions in the community, and learn about waste sorting. The event will be held using the game method, which will allow you to understand the problem much deeper than during a regular report or presentation.
Players will immerse themselves in the situation, finding a connection between theoretical knowledge and personal experience, their own lives. This "touches" and encourages them to look for possible solutions after the game is over. The event will be moderated by the head of the Youth Council of the Merefa community, who has experience in holding similar events. The indicator for measuring the productivity of the event is the number of proposals and environmental measures that the youth will present to the Merefa City Council.
The relevant departments of the local government are currently developing a Comprehensive Energy Efficiency and Energy Security Program for the Merefianka community and have begun work on updating the Waste Management Service Improvement Plan for the Merefa community. That is why ideas from active youth will be considered and taken into account when developing strategic community documents.
