Responsibilities
Ivo Walinga is the China Programme Officer at the International Energy Agency in Paris, where he drives efforts to strengthen energy and climate cooperation with China.
He previously held diplomatic roles at the EU and OSCE across Europe and Asia, focusing on energy, trade, and sustainable development. His experience includes advising Central Asian governments on green trade along the Silk Road, conducting fieldwork on East Asia’s decarbonisation in China and Korea for Asia House, and supporting sustainable resource use and mining in Mongolia.
Ivo has represented youth voices at high-level platforms as an IRENA Youth Delegate in Abu Dhabi and advised global energy companies, including Europe’s largest renewable energy producer, Statkraft, on strategic investments for a zero-carbon future.
He holds degrees from Oxford, Sciences Po Paris, and Peking University, and is fluent in Chinese and Russian.
