Responsibilities

Monica Frassoni is an Italian politician and environmental campaigner. She was a Member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2009 and co-president of the Green Group in the EP from 2002 to 2009. Until November 2019, she also served as co-chair of the European Green Party.  

Since late 2010, Ms. Frassoni has been president of the European Alliance to Save Energy (EU-ASE), a multistakeholder association that promotes energy efficiency across Europe. Since 2013, she has been president of the European Centre for Electoral Assistance (ECES), a non-profit foundation that implements electoral assistance projects in EU partner countries. Ms. Frassoni is a board member of Friends of Europe. 

She is widely recognised for her leadership in advancing sustainable energy policies and democratic governance in Europe. In 2010, Foreign Policy included her among the Top 100 Global Thinkers, and, according to EURACTIV, she is among the 40 most influential figures in European energy policy.
