The European Youth Energy Day returns for its fourth edition this year as a campaign to put the spotlight on 30 Young Energy Ambassadors driving forward Europe’s energy transition. A new format will maximise participation, giving young professionals from the field of clean energy and climate change mitigation more space to share their vision, and taking on what they have to say. Below are a few select highlights of what to expect from a EUSEW that puts younger voices and intergenerational dialogue at its core.
The first ever cohort of EUSEW Young Energy Ambassadors has been selected on the basis of their achievements in climate change mitigation efforts, including through accelerating Europe’s clean energy transition. They bring together 22 nationalities and are aged between 20 and 35. Among them, an engineer educating citizens about sustainable housing, a lawyer specialised in climate law, an entrepreneur developing renewable energy projects, and an expert urban planner pushing for greener cities.
A dedicated plenary session at the Policy Conference will bring youth perspectives to the forefront with a discussion led by YES-Europe on the environmental, social, and economic benefits of energy communities. Onsite and online participants will be invited to share their inputs in this interactive workshop aimed at pooling expertise and developing future policy suggestions.
These young professionals and activists will be part of a co-creation session where they will debate solutions in activities designed to promote problem-solving and collaboration. Following a world café format, professional facilitation led by young people will bring out the best in participants and ensure discussions remain focused on concrete action in areas including behavioural change, affordability and the role of technology in the energy transition. The ideas developed within the space will be brought to the Policy Conference attendees through various formats.
EUSEW is committed to boosting dialogue and developing solutions beyond the event week itself. With this in mind, the year-long mandate of our Young Energy Ambassadors means they will have a platform to continually share their perspectives and progress until June 2024. Keep an eye out for their contributions, coming soon to the EUSEW blog.
