How is EUSEW contributing to the European Year of Youth?

European Year of Youth Image

Young people across Europe play a vital role in building a greener, more inclusive and digital future. With 2022 designated the European Year of Youth, the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), is spotlighting projects and initiatives giving a voice to young people helping boost Europe’s energy transition.

Find out how we are working alongside the European Year of Youth to ensure young people are represented in EUSEW’s conversations about the Green Deal, the energy transition and the REPowerEU Plan.

Giving young people the chance to be part of the discussion in their communities

Beyond the week of EUSEW itself, there are plenty of opportunities for young people to join conversations about transforming Europe’s energy system and explore how they relate to the local level. Independently organised Sustainable Energy Days are taking place from now until late September around the world, and can be found both on the EUSEW interactive map and on a dedicated programme on the European Youth Portal, making sure young people are kept in the loop about what is relevant close to their communities.

Raising the profile of young people making a difference

The European Sustainable Energy Awards (EUSEW Awards) are designed to recognise outstanding achievements by individuals and projects working to advance Europe’s sustainable energy agenda. The Young Energy Trailblazer category specifically shines a light on young people under 35 who are making a difference in the field: last year’s winner, Filip Koprčina was awarded for his work on a platform enabling citizens to invest in solar energy projects. Discover this year’s finalists from late August and find out the winners during the Awards ceremony on Monday 26 September.

Bringing young people to the forefront of conversations about the future

During EUSEW itself, the dedicated European Youth Energy Day will include young Europeans in a dialogue with European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, and offer insights into projects working to shape Europe’s energy future. In addition, extra sessions that bring a specific youth angle to the forefront are highlighted throughout the programme. Find out more about the Youth Energy Day by meeting some of the speakers lined up.
