Description

A positive energy building brings about many unaccounted benefits apart from the generation of surplus energy from renewable sources. These ‘co-benefits’ can be broadly classified as environmental, user well-being, economic and social.
In the EU-funded project Cultural-E we examine these Co-benefits of the Plus Energy Buildings (PEBs) at the household level and at the community level, which we will further elaborate at the 'Co-benefits of Plus Energy Buildings at household and community level' on 28 September. The event is part of the European Union Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) Energy Days, and it will be hybrid - both in Brussels and online.
We would like to discuss the methodologies we chose and share the status of work done and get your valuable feedback to contribute to our work.
As a teaser: we employed two separate methodologies depending upon whether the co-benefits have an existing market price tag or not. The availability of social or economic market prices for some of the co-benefits makes them suitable for quantification using the Direct Costing (DC) method, whereas the remaining co-benefits which do not have associated costs can be quantified using a method called the Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE).
