-CITIZEN ENERGY COMMUNITIES-
THE PATH TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY AND DIGITALIZATION,
Combating rising energy costs, security of supply and climate change requires a joint approach. Community energy can answer all three problems at the local level.
An Energy Community is an entity around which people and entities, either public or private, from a nearby environment, who wish to cooperate together in an activity related to the energy sector to provide services or other socio-economic and environmental benefits to its members or the local community, thus providing a close tool to directly address the climate and energy crisis.
These Communities also offer significant advantages over other traditional actors, as described in the European Directives themselves.
These differences with respect to other market players, however, entail challenges that these communities must address: the difficulty in obtaining initial financing from local citizens; dependence on volunteers and non-energy professionals; lack of experience in overcoming procedural and administrative hurdles to market access; the complexities of using internal democratic governance and local participation strategies, or the use of legal forms that are not familiar, or customary, to ordinary people.
At GERENTA ENERGIA, as an Advanced Energy Services company committed to the local economy and solidarity, we believe that the only natural response to the energy crisis is to develop collective energy projects, more and faster, for which we provide technical and administrative support to these initiatives, promoting a change in the energy model, where we understand the Energy Communities as a tool with a high potential for social impact.
