Coupling of Heating/Cooling and electricity sectors in a renewable energy-driven Europe

This online conference aims to highlight the need to make renewables-based technologies economically more competitive in order to establish clean and integrated technologies on a widespread basis and meet the Fit-for55-target.

The particular focus is on (thermal) storage in terms of technologies and overall system integration. The suggested solutions should benefit from streamlined permissions and receive financial and institutional incentives while removing administrative burdens.

Moreover, while the economic, infrastructural and legal framework for renewable heating and cooling is currently being shaped, a lack of design, planning and installation skills emerges. Hence a thorough assessment and EU-wide coordination effort is recommended to ensure the education and training of a sufficient number of designers, planners and installers by making the "renewable energy" carrer path attractive and providing enough education and (re-)training facilities. The online event will include a brief presentation of the ETIP SNET and ETIP RHC Join White Paper "Coupling of Heating/Cooling and electricity sectors in a renewable energy-driven Europe"; two panel sessions on Technological requirements and barriers and Thermal storage as an enabler of system integration and sector coupling, each one followed by a short Q&A break.

Finally, a round table discussion on the skills needed for sector coupling will be open. The conference will end with a few closing remarks.
