Description
The main objective of the proposed conference is to show the impact of climate change on fire risk and its effects in the Raya area (frontier between Spain and Portugal). To this end, joint tools will be created to facilitate risk management in the cooperation territory through the capitalisation of results, knowledge and good practices.
FIREPOCTEP will not only improve the cooperation and coordination of fire brigades, but will also serve as an example of best practices in circular economy for obtaining energy from forest plant residues, for which training actions for citizens and joint tools will be carried out. It will be created to facilitate risk management in the cooperation territory, as well as the communication and dissemination of the results and of the project itself.
The event entitled ‘FIREPOCTEP SESSION--Reassessment of agroforestry residues for clean energy production’, will also focus on opportunities from EU-funded programmes such as LIFE and its opportunities to finance projects that incorporate innovative solutions that contribute to the fight against climate change in different areas. Thanks to the participation of a wide variety of experts in European funds and beneficiaries of the FIREPOCTEP project, several training workshops will be provided about the usage of forest and agricultural wastes in areas potentially susceptible to being affected by fires.
FIREPOCTEP works for an effective control of forest fires. It also discusses their consequences and strives to prevent them by raising awareness and by applying a mitigation approach in rural areas. Being a consortium of 21 Portuguese and Spanish beneficiaries, FIREPOCTEP also strives to improve the efforts to prevent and extinguish forest fires in the cross-border region between Spain and Portugal, called ‘La Raya/A Raia’.
