Responsibilities
Swaroop is an energy economist and policy expert specialising in German energy policy, specifically on the evaluation of energy and climate policy. A mechanical engineer by training, he developed an interest for the softer sciences and the economics of the energy transition during his doctoral studies, which he concluded with a thesis on the impacts of clean energy investment on income inequality in Brazil. He worked as a Senior Researcher at Fraunhofer ISI before joining the European Institute for Energy Research (EIFER), a collaboration between EDF R&D and the Karlsruher Institut für Technologie, as a Senior Researcher and Project Leader.
Swaroop is deeply engaged in Franco-German cooperation, being part of the 2023 cohort of the programme Génération Europe/Generation Europa. He also served in the orientation council of the Franco-German Youth Office and is active in Franco-German cooperation at the local and regional level in Baden-Württemberg.
He holds a PhD in Economics from the Université Savoie Mont Blanc and the Grenoble Ecole de Management, and Master’s degrees from the Karlsruher Institut für Technologie and the Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon. He is French and lives in Karlsruhe, Germany.
