Local Energy Action Award: grassroots achievement in the spotlight

The EUSEW Local Energy Action Award recognises implemented sustainable energy actions driven by a group of citizens that contribute to the clean energy transition at community or local level.

Do not miss out on your chance to become our next winner at EUSEW 2024! You have until 1 February 2024 at 23.59 CET to submit your application for the EUSEW Awards.

The goal of the 18th edition of EUSEW, under the theme of ‘Net-zero energy solutions for a competitive Europe’, is to inspire transformative ideas and initiatives. Join us in Brussels or online for the event on 11-13 June 2024, as we pay tribute to the pioneering achievements that are forming Europe’s green future.

Applauding local excellence and innovation

The EUSEW Local Energy Action Award focuses on individuals and projects working with communities that have excelled in the areas of energy efficiency and renewables, making a major contribution to Europe’s clean energy transition.

In 2023, the EUSEW Awards celebrated the winners from three categories: Innovation, Local Energy Action and Woman in Energy.

KLIK (Križevci Laboratory for Innovation in Climate), the winner of the award for Local Energy Action, helps fellow citizens become a driver for the energy transition, bringing clean energy to the residents of Križevci in central Croatia. Together with the municipality and other local organisations, KLIK has set up an energy-climate office that acts as a one-stop shop for the town’s 20 000 inhabitants. The goal is for the installed photovoltaics to produce an estimated 288 791 kWh of renewable energy per year. The resulting annual savings are expected to be 54 tonnes of CO2 emissions, equivalent to removing a dozen petrol powered cars from the highway.

‘KLIK is a unique energy cooperative helping citizens in the energy transition,’ says Sanela Mikulčič Šantić, Cooperative Manager of KLIK. ‘We educate them, assist in preparing the necessary documentation and connect them with contractors to install the solar panels on their homes.’

Awards Ceremony and more

An online public vote will be open from 30 April to 2 June 2024 to decide the winner among the finalists, who will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on 11 June 2024. The finalists will receive invitations to the Awards Ceremony.

However, the story does not end with the ceremony and announcement of the winner. The finalists’ hard-won fame will travel far beyond EUSEW. A professional film crew will record their work in promotional videos, raising their profiles across EUSEW communication channels. Their success stories will range far and wide, reaching pan-EU and local media outlets.

You could be one of them! Apply now for the 2024 EUSEW Local Energy Action Award.
