Against the backdrop of an ever-growing community, the 17th edition of the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) 2023 took place on 20-22 June. Under the theme of ‘Accelerating the clean energy transition - towards lower bills and greater skills’ over 2 000 onsite and 10 000 online participants came together to discuss next steps and taking action towards renewable energy.

With 7 plenaries, 61 policy sessions, 35 Energy Fair stands, 128 Sustainable Energy Days, and the fourth edition of the European Youth Energy Day, EUSEW this year once again offered fresh opportunities to deliver Europe’s clean energy transition.

Clean energy success stories

The EUSEW Awards Ceremony presented an excellent opportunity to celebrate the individuals and projects taking strides towards a more sustainable energy future. Members of the high-level jury were present at the session alongside European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, and named the winners of the Innovation, Local Energy Action, and Woman in Energy categories, as well as the Young Energy Champion.

Capturing each of the participants was clearly an impossible task but, perhaps, there are still many you would recognise. Young professionals at the forefront

The first ever cohort of Young Energy Ambassadors joined us in Brussels to share their ideas and vision for a decarbonised future. A new format for the European Youth Energy Day gave them an opportunity to workshop ideas and co-create original solutions. A careful selection of recommendations was presented during the Closing Session, sparking an insightful conversation between Director-General of the Directorate-General for Energy, Ditte Juul Jørgensen and Diederik Samsom, Head of Cabinet of Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans.
