ACCSESS Open Oslo Event – CCS as a key to unlocking urban carbon neutrality

The EU has described CO₂ capture and storage (CCS) technologies “key” to reaching our climate targets and limiting the increase in global temperatures to below 1.5˚C, particularly for industries that are difficult to decarbonise, such as cement and pulp and paper. However, there are still several barriers that need to be addressed for CCS to fulfil its potential – and this will require efforts from various sectors. 

In line with this, on behalf of the ACCSESS project, Hafslund Oslo Celsio and SINTEF are inviting policymakers and representatives from European cities and industries to a day of open conversations about the challenges and opportunities associated with curbing industrial CO₂ emissions, and how they relate to cities’ climate adaptation and mitigation plans.

This Open Oslo Event is the first of four open events to be organised by ACCSESS. In addition to numerous talks, the event will feature two panel discussions with project stakeholders: the first addressing the curbing of CO₂ emissions and the second exploring how cities’ climate plans can relate to industrial decarbonisation. Participants are also invited on an exciting tour of Hafslund Oslo Celsio’s waste-to-energy plant at Klemetsrud, Norway, where the mobile test rig is currently being modified to test CO2 capture using the CO2 Solutions Technology by Saipem as part of the project.

Participation is free of charge, and you do not need to have any prior knowledge of or plans for CCS to attend. The event is intended to be a platform for initiating discussions on the potential of CCS to contribute to European urban climate-neutral action plans, and anyone interested is welcome to join either online or in person.
