Responsibilities

Tanya Hristova has been the Mayor of Gabrovo, Bulgaria, since 2011, currently serving her fourth term. A dedicated advocate for sustainable development and energy efficiency, she has played a key role in shaping local and European policies in these areas. She leads the Bulgarian delegation to the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), where she has been an active member since 2012. As Chair of the Commission for Social Policy, Education, Employment, Research, and Culture (SEDEC), she contributes to shaping EU strategies on social cohesion and innovation. Since 2015, she has also chaired the Governing Council of the Municipal Energy Efficiency Network “EcoEnergy”, reinforcing her commitment to advancing local energy transition efforts. She is also a member of the Cities Mission Mayors Advisory Group under the EU Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, where she collaborates with European city leaders to accelerate the transition to climate neutrality. With a strong background in governance and EU affairs, her leadership has made Gabrovo a recognized example of sustainable urban development. As a jury member for the Sustainable Energy Awards, she brings her expertise in energy efficiency, climate action, and local governance to support and recognise innovative solutions driving the energy transition. Her story is a testament to her dedication, resilience, and commitment to serving her community. As a woman in politics, she stands as a role model, breaking barriers and leading the way for future generations.
