If you are planning an event around sustainability, clean energy, or climate action, why not take it to the next level? Hosting your action as part of the Sustainable Energy Days (SED) initiative offers a different kind of exposure and gives you the chance to elevate a local conversation to a larger policy debate about Europe’s transition to a future with clean energy.

These events, held between March and June throughout Europe and beyond, are a key part of the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), bringing together individuals and entire communities. Whether you are a local government, a company, a civil society organisation, or simply someone keen to make a difference, this flexible format allows you to benefit from being part of the larger EUSEW community and put your work into the spotlight.

Position your event strategically and maximise reach

Sustainable Energy Days create public spaces to discuss and showcase the latest sustainable energy technologies, policies, and best practices. From workshops and panel discussions to art-based interventions and public exhibitions, there’s a wide variety of formats. The goal? To get people talking and acting on the clean energy transition.

Once registered, your event will be featured on the EUSEW’s interactive map, giving it global visibility among individuals and organisations passionate about clean energy. Plus, you will get access to promotional templates to strengthen the event branding and credibility.

Hosting your SED is about more than just putting on a new discussion space or assigning a prestigious title to an activity that is already planned. It is also a fantastic networking opportunity. Whether you are joining the EUSEW Policy Conference in June onsite or online, as a Sustainable Energy Day organiser you are likely to already be on the participants’ radar.

Not least, you will be contributing directly to the EU’s energy and climate goals, inspiring others to join the movement toward a more sustainable future.

Shape the clean energy conversation

Over the years, EUSEW has seen countless Sustainable Energy Days, from Spain to Ukraine and Kazakhstan to India. These events offered participants the chance to have their say, exchange, implement solutions, build relationships, and gain knowledge about the energy transition. Here are a few highlights from those held in 2024:

The “European Union - Sustainable Energy Days in Tajikistan” introduced students to the concept of a just energy transition and explored career paths in sustainable energy.

In Turkey, Yıldız Technical University hosted an immersive experience featuring a hydrogen farm showcase, technical tours, and panel discussions on the future of battery research. Students also had the chance to present their own sustainability projects and connect with industry professionals.

In Valencia, the annual Day of the Sun celebration took a hands-on approach, with workshops teaching property managers how to install solar panels and giving citizens the opportunity to build their own PV panel kits.

In Brussels, during an event at NTNU’s office, experts gathered to discuss financing net-zero emission neighbourhoods, with policy recommendations for scaling up energy-efficient buildings across Europe.

Ukraine was also in the spotlight, with an event dedicated to green and affordable housing. Key stakeholders, including municipalities and developers, came together to explore how to support sustainable housing projects.

These initiatives are just a glimpse of the incredible work happening worldwide under the Sustainable Energy Day umbrella, continuing to inspire action and shape a more sustainable future.

  • Apply early to maximise the exposure: applications are reviewed on a rolling basis  – once registered, your event will be featured on the EUSEW website, newsletter, and interactive map.
  • Make use of the promotional toolkit: most of the events take place in the run-up to EUSEW 2025, which means that yours has higher chances of being seen due to its EUSEW branding.
  • Emphasise the event’s focus on energy efficiency, clean energy, or climate solutions to align with the Sustainable Energy Days initiative and theme of EUSEW 2025 Policy Conference.
  • Set clear goals: whether you want to raise awareness, educate people, or spark discussions on clean energy, stating your objectives will help attract most relevant participants.
  • Even if the topic has global implications, make sure to put local stakeholders into the spotlight. Hosting a Sustainable Energy Day is meant to strengthen engagement and empower communities with practical knowledge.
  • Keep people engaged: plan activities that encourage participation, whether it is discussions, workshops, or Q&A sessions. Online events can use Slido and breakout rooms, while in-person events could benefit from icebreakers and group activities.
